Girl & the Goat Design

We ate at Girl & the Goat last night, Top Chef Stephanie Izard’s new hotspot. Loved everything about it—the service, the fun vibe, the unexpected and delicious tastes (yummy parmesan-crusted roasted peppers!)—and the contemporary/rustic décor. Designed by Chicago-based 555 International, it’s cool without trying too hard. The restrooms on the lower level are a model of how to achieve a great look at a great price—I immediately spotted Savoy penny tiles from Ann Sacks’s basic collection (under $10 a square foot) and the quite-reasonable Pottery Barn oval mirrors hung from chains. Perhaps because I have both in my own bathrooms at home. The designers also used inexpensive white subway tile for the walls, along with accent walls of large linen-like tiles (hung vertically for a fresh look). Extra paper towels and toilet paper are corralled in old wooden Coke and Pepsi cases. Now if I could just get the recipe for those peppers.
