I really love the new Reagan Hayes Collection at the David Sutherland showroom at the Mart (suite 1800). If you’re over there for NeoCon, be sure to stop by and see it for yourself. —JAN PARR Posted at 09:58 AM in Spotted | Back to all posts |

Art and design have always been closely aligned. It seems that current style is a mix of Frank Lloyd Wight Mastercraft and Empire style spiced with a dash of 1950’s Hollywood elegance. The newest styles are cloned from the styles of the past. We take from this an amazing conglomeration of tastes and reinvent it for today’s discriminating furniture market. I looked at the styles and it’s apparent that dark wood painted or stained espresso or coffee bean is the fashion ticket. Art that enhances this darker heavier style can be anything from contemporary to modern art. Art that compliments dark furniture must have lively color. Decorative objects are essential to proper room design and art impact . Gone are art pieces in pale pastels and light colors that blended so well with the light oak furniture of past incarnations. This is a time of elegance, rounded corners on tables, cut outs on the traditional camel back sofa, metal and wood chairs in rich dark upholstery. The key word is luxury. Luxury is well represented by overstuffed furniture, thick carved gold frames and elegant dark wood pieces that echo the finest highly polished Lane coffee and tables from the past.
