Scoop | 10/19/12Must-Hit Antique Sale at Highland Park's Adesso
Kathy Hahn, the owner of Highland Park’s Adesso (600 Central Ave.), recently went on a road trip with her sisters through Indianapolis, Louisville, and their hometown of Dayton, Ohio. On their travels, the three hit up their favorite shops and antique markets and discovered some new ones. At each stop, they bought beautiful vintage home goods. The best part? Kathy is selling a bunch of her finds at a special Adesso Antique and Vintage Market through October 27th. The offerings are mostly glassware and tableware, including beautiful pressed glass, pitchers and bowls with silver overlay, milk glass serving pieces (like this pitcher), depression glass, linens, and more. Weren’t you planning to spruce up your table before the holiday entertaining season gets going? —ALICE OGLETHORPE Posted at 4:48 PM in Scoop | Permalink | Comments (0) |
Scoop | 10/19/12Weekend Winner: The Antiques + Modernism Show in Winnetka!
This weekend, the Woman’s Board of Winnetka Community House will once again show us how a design show is done. The Antiques + Modernism Winnetka exhibition and sale, which goes Friday through Sunday, is a chance to check out furniture, garden antiques, lighting, fine and folk art, architectural artifacts, and more. And unlike some shows that feature just one style or period, this one runs the gamut. There are Asian and European antiques mixed with Mid-Century, Art Nouveau, and Arts and Crafts items. A few knockouts are a George III walnut and parcel gilt mirror from the 1770s, a Coalbrookdale bench from England in the 1890s, and a Danish Modern sideboard, shown here. And the show will include a bunch of fun events, such as a brunch with J. Michael Flanigan from Antiques Roadshow and a Mad Men-themed cocktail party where you’ll be surrounded by Mid-Century furniture and get served food and drinks popular in the ’60s. Purchase tickets to the show ($15 if you get them in advance, otherwise they are $20) or any of the events at www.thewinnetkashow.com/tickets. It all goes down at the Winnetka Community House (620 Lincoln Ave.). —ALICE OGLETHORPE Posted at 9:34 AM in Scoop | Permalink | Comments (0) |

Scoop | 10/17/12Limited Edition Eames’s LTR Tables by Herman Miller
This year marks the 100th anniversary of Ray Eames’s birth and, to celebrate, Herman Miller is releasing three special-edition Eames Wire Base Low Tables (Eames LTR Tables). Originally introduced in 1950, these tables are cute, practical, and provide a pop of primary color. Use one as a nightstand or side table, group a few in lieu of a coffee table, or just plop one down wherever you need a little Eames. Available in Ray Eames’s favorite colors: cobalt blue, red-orange, and yellow gold. You might also recognize these famed hues from the exterior of the Case Study House #8, co-designed by Charles and Ray Eames. The tables will be on sale starting mid-October and only be available through spring 2013 at Design Within Reach (10 E. Ohio St., 312-280-4677) or Room & Board (55 E. Ohio St., 312-222-0970). —LESLIE MARSHALL Posted at 3:46 PM in Scoop | Permalink | Comments (0) |
Spotted | 10/17/12Like the Furniture on The Good Wife? Buy it at Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
The Good Wife is a hit, from the storyline to the acting. And the set design is not so shabby either. In fact, the show’s set decorator, Beth Kushnick, and her bosses at CBS have teamed up with Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams to create a collection of furniture, with an accompanying accessories and lighting line that will be rolled out by Interlude Home. Among the MG+BW pieces: Kalinda’s white-leather wing chair (shown here) for $1,895, Will’s vintage-looking leather club chair for $1,945, and Diane’s sleek desk for $1,430. Any of these are sure add drama to your home (but hopefully nowhere near the kind of drama seen on the show). Check out the collection at the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams store in Lincoln Park (1555 N Halsted Street, 312-397-3135). —ALICE OGLETHORPE Posted at 11:07 AM in Spotted | Permalink | Comments (0) |

This month at her store, she is featuring a selection of pink home décor items and accessories, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure. There are vases, artwork, candles, and fun accents, including these lovely pink lady lamps ($525 for the pair).
