About our listings: The professionals and businesses listed here are chosen by the editors of Chicago Home + Garden. We gather leads from trade magazines, from other professionals in the field, and via word of mouth. Derse often works with architects to design interior spaces. She steers away from trends, describing her style as a timeless mixture of old and new. “I don’t want a room to look like a designer came in and did it all at once,” she says. “I want it to look like it came from the owner’s own collection and evolved over time.” Derse is currently restoring two Howard Van Doren Shaw gatehouses—one to use as her office, the other as her home—and three David Adler homes on the North Shore.
