Urban Remains Expands

A visit to Urban Remains (1850 W. Grand Ave., 312-492-6254) always feels like a treasure hunt. Everything you come across—an old elementary school chair, an industrial shop lamp, a medical sterilizing cabinet—has a fascinating past. If you can’t get enough of this stuff, you can now head a few doors south for more at Urban Remains’ new sibling showroom at 1818 W. Grand Ave. Owner Eric Nordstrom is using the new space to sell some of his personal collection, which includes rare folk art pieces, trade signs from the late 19th century, and pristine antique lighting fixtures. He will also be selling repurposed furniture and exhibiting rotating displays showing off artifacts and photography. Think of it as a way to see the best picks from the warehouse, without getting dust on your clothes. Still want more? You’re in luck because this is just the first step in Urban Remains’ 2013 expansion—by the end of the year, the original warehouse will triple in size to 30,000 square feet.
