Jen Pearson’s Match Jar Is a Simple, Brilliant Design

This match holder and striker, made by a local designer from an apothecary jar, is an easy gift that’ll fire up your giftee.

A friend is moving to Chicago from New York and I wanted to get her something little for her new apartment. So I glanced around my own home for inspiration and realized that the one thing I get the most compliments on is something completely random: A tiny reclaimed apothecary jar that’s filled with matches from designer Jen Pearson. To light a match, you just strike it on the rough bottom of the jar.

The only place in Chicago you can get them is at the amazing gift shop Komoda (2559 W. Chicago Ave.), so I high-tailed it over there and nabbed two. These little fire-starters are a hot commodity, so call ahead to make sure they are in stock!
