The Rug Company

Rugs from The Rug Company on display

Chicago’s design glitterati came out in force for the opening of The Rug Company’s River North showroom last fall. Who could miss it? Especially as seen at night, all illuminated, those double-height windows showcasing contemporary handmade rugs are like beacons for the surface-challenged. Suzanne and Christopher Sharp started the company in London in 1997; the Chicago store is the brand’s fourth in the U.S. The most fun part? The way the world of fashion has infiltrated floor coverings—some of the company’s best and brightest patterns are by Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, Paul Smith, and other stars of the runway. 320 N.
