Tru Colors

Steve Koch's Serenity Sofa and Juno Lounge Chair fit into any decor.

When Doug Van Tress opened his huge new location of The Golden Triangle, he called Steve Koch, a local furniture designer and manufacturer who owns Koch-Smith at the Merchandise Mart, to help him out. Van Tress needed furniture to help customers visualize how they could live with his Asian antiques. Coincidentally, Koch was just launching a new line, Tru Furniture. Partly with Golden Triangle customers in mind, and partly based on what he was seeing as a need in the marketplace, he created a look he calls "transmodern": upholstered pieces inspired by the softer, curvier lines of periods past, but updated to suit contemporary decor. Not surprisingly, the styles look just right mixed with Asian antiques. Available at The Golden Triangle, 330 N. Clark St., 312-755-1266; and trufurniture.com
