08.19.08 OPENING FOR FREELANCE GRAPHIC DESIGNER

Chicago magazine is looking for a talented marketing design freelancer.

Responsible for creating graphic designs for special ad features, promotional sheets, develop creative concepts for marketing and promotional materials for Chicago magazine, Chicago HOME, and Chicago FASHION magazine and events. Work closely with marketing designers to create print ads and advertorials. Archive past projects and assist in mocking-up materials on presentation boards. A maximum of 35 hrs a week. Experience in the magazine industry preferred. Recent graduate or 1 yr. experience preferred. Hourly rate dependent on experience.  

Requirements: Previous work related experience and must demonstrate proficiency on Macintosh. Must also have knowledge of Adobe Creative Suites (Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe InDesign, QuarkXpress and other related design programs (Adobe Acrobat, Extensive Suitcase and Microsoft Office Suite). Knowledge of Macromedia Flash a plus.

Requires one to work well in a creative team environment and independently and take the lead on design projects with exceptional typography, design skills and attention to detail. Individual must also be able to handle tight deadlines, work well under pressure, and prioritize multiple projects in a timely fashion. EDITORIAL INTERNSHIPS

Chicago magazine's editorial department seeks motivated, enthusiastic self-starters to help with research and fact-checking. Applicants should be detail-oriented and meticulous researchers. An English or journalism background is preferred but not required.

The bulk of the job is fact-checking; however, interns are encouraged to attend weekly editorial meetings and pitch story ideas. Our paid internships are four days a week and typically last three months. Hiring is competitive.

Chicago magazine also features two specialty research internships, one for our dining section and one for our special publication Chicago HOME. (To apply for HOME, please see below.) An interest in restaurants or home design is useful but not necessary.

Applications are taken well in advance. Deadlines are as follows:

* Summer, April 1
* Fall, August 1
* Winter, Nov. 1
* Spring, March 1

CHICAGO HOME + GARDEN INTERNSHIP

This bimonthly shelter magazine, which covers local design and architecture, looks for enthusiastic students or recent grads with some publications experience to fact-check and perform general editorial duties. Internships, which last about three months, are paid; interns work between three and five days a week. http://www.chicagohomemag.com
